TUESDAY, January 23, 2001 <br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution. Mr. Kevin Reed, Director of Planning and <br /> <br />Community Development for Henry County, addressed Council and explained this request is for <br />adoption of a Resolution to request $25,000 in Industrial Site Development Funds from the <br />Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. The project will be for the <br />proposal of a new regional industrial site in cooperation with the City, Hemy County, and Patrick <br />County. The planning grant application will require a $38,000 match in local funds to be shared <br />as follows: Martinsville, 25%, Henry County, 50%, and Patrick County, 25%. The City's share <br />of the match will be $9,500. If the Resolution is adopted, planning activities could begin <br />including preliminary engineering, an environmental audit, phase one of an archeological survey, <br />and detailed, contoured mapping for site development activities. Council moved upon motion <br />duly seconded, with all members voting: Vote 5-0; Yeas (5)- Crabtree, Teague, Dallas, Ferrill, <br />and Roop; Nays (0)- None, adoption of the Resolution as follows: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development is now providing <br />funds for industrial site development projects, including planning assistance funds; and <br /> <br /> i <br />?WltF~REAS, the 2000 Virginia Industrial Site Development Fund requires that projects <br />requesting assistance involve participation by at least two counties, or a city and a county; and <br /> <br /> WItF~REAS, the City of Martinsville, and the Counties of Henry and Patrick recognize the benefit of <br /> cooperating on a regional basis for economic development; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session <br /> a~sembled January 23,2001, that it desires to join with Henry County and Patrick County in <br /> applying for the Virginia Industrial Site Development Fund--Planning Assistance Program; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTFIF~R RESOLVED that the proposed project is a planning project for a new <br /> regional industrial site in cooperation with Henry County and Patrick County; and <br /> <br /> IE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Martinsville supports Henry County submitting <br /> a request for $25,000 in Industrial Site Development Funds to be matched with $38,000 in locaJ <br /> funds, for a total project cost of $63,000, with the understanding that the co-applicants for the ' <br /> funds are Henry County, Patrick County and the City of Martinsville. <br /> <br />ii <br /> <br /> <br />
