TUESDAY, January 9, 2001 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Governor has released his proposed budget amendments for Fiscal Years 2000 and 2001 <br />which will severely reduce funding to localities in a number of key areas such as education, law enforcement <br />(599 Funds), and salaries and pay increases for constitutional employees; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the'City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled <br />January 9, 2001, that it does hereby request that the members of the Virginia General Assembly vote against <br />any proposed revenue reductions to the localities; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that 'the City Administration is directed to 'forward a copy of this <br />Resolution to the Governor, the Chairpersons of the Senate and House Finance Committees, Senator Roscoe <br />Reynolds, Delegates Ward Armstrong, Barnie Day, and Allen Dudley, and the Chairman of the Henry County <br />Board of Supervisors. <br /> <br />Council considered the Consent Agenda with the following items: <br /> <br /> A. Accept and appropriate funding from the Commonwealth of Virginia for the FY2000-2001 <br /> General Fund Budget for the Commonwealth Attorney' s Office, as follows: <br /> <br /> 1. $4,290.72 into Revenue 01101916-434106--Equipment for Expenditure 01221082- <br /> 508201--Machinery & Equipment for purchasing Video Presentation Equipment. <br /> <br /> 2. $1,300.00 into Revenue 01101916434105--Office Expenses for Expenditure <br /> 0122 1082-50600 1~ffice Supplies to assist in the operation of the office. <br /> <br />Council moved upon motion duly 'seconded, with all members voting: Vote 5;0; Yeas (5)-Crabtree, Teague, <br />Dallas, Fer~ll, and Roop; Nays (0)- None, to accept and appropriate the Consent Agenda items. <br /> <br />In other matters, Mayor Crabtree statedthat a letter was received from the U.S. 'Postal Service denying the <br />City' s request to deliver mail on both sides of the street in the Northside area of Liberty Street. The request <br />was for the ultimate purpose of ensuring safety for 'residents that have to cross the 'street to get their mail. <br />ARer discussion, it was decided that additional request letters should be forwarded to state and federal <br />legislative bodies and officials. City Manager Reynolds distributed a schedule of dates for Council to conduct <br />various department efficiency assessments. Council Member Roop said that he has received several inquiries <br />regarding the boil water advisory issued by the City in December, 'and that he wished to comment on the letter <br />written by City Manager Reynolds to Mr. Taylor of the Virginia Department of Health. Council Member <br />Roop commended the City Manager for writing the letter and praised efforts by City employees in the work to <br /> <br /> <br />
