Phillips <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville has 770 employees on its payroll that serve both its <br />Municipal and School Divisions, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, 733 of these employees participate in a health insurance program offered <br />through Trigon along with approximately 20,000 other public and private sector <br />employees in the Martinsville-Henry County area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville has always taken into consideration whether or not <br />a health insurance company has a primary relationship with the local hospital as a part of <br />its health care coverage selection process; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Trigon had such a relationship with the local hospital at the time of its <br />selection to cover the City's employees; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as of December 31, 2000, Trigon announced that its contract with the local <br />hospital had expired potentially causing those insured through the City, as well as the <br />other locally insured public and private sector employees, to pay higher health care costs <br />to utilize the services of the local hospital and/or incur additional expense and <br />inconveniences to travel outside the area for hospital services; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular <br />session assembled January 9, 2001, that it does hereby request the Board of Directors of <br />Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County and its administration and the <br />appropriate corporate representatives from Trigon to resolve those issues which are <br />preventing the use of the local hospital by Trigon-insured public and private sector <br />employees as an in-network health care provider; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Martinsville is <br />willing to meet with representatives of the local hospital and Trigon, collectively or <br />individually, to help bring this matter to a successful conclusion. <br /> <br />Attest: <br /> <br />Clarence C.
