Phillips <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Interstate 73 will be the primary growth engine for the Martinsville and Henry <br />County economy, promoting employment, capital investment, travel, tourism, recreation and <br />other contributions to the improvement of economic and educational conditions in our area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Interstate 73 will fuel the growth of the Martinsville-Hem'y County area for <br />generations to come and will define the population and development growth corridors in the <br />development of the region; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the location of Interstate 73 in this area is absolutely critical to the orderly and <br />healthy development of Martinsville-Henry County and the surrounding area, to help bring more <br />industry, more jobs, higher paying jobs, growth in the tax base and a better standard of economic <br />living to our area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Interstate 73 should be located and routed in a manner that will bring the greatest <br />benefit to the greatest number of people, and serve as a connector for the industrial parks and <br />employment centers in Henry County and the City of Martinsville promoting the orderly <br />movement of employees, goods and services; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Interstate 73 can provide an eastem connector for the main traffic arteries linking <br />the Martinsville-Henry County area to the region it serves including the Figsboro Road, Barrows <br />Mill Road, Chatham Road, Danville Road and the Eden Road providing opporttmities for key <br />economic development projects that will result in economic stability, expansion of the tax base <br />and job growth; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session <br />assembled January 9, 2001, that it hereby recommends and supports the final location of <br />Interstate 73 in a new road corridor routed to the East of the City of Martinsville; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council supports the construction of an Interstate <br />73 interchange that will serve the Barrows Mill Road area which will give easier access to the <br />Patrick Henry Community College, Patriot Center Industrial Park, Clearview Business Park, <br />Liberty Fair Mall, and Martinsville's Uptown Retail and Commercial Business District. <br /> <br />Attest: <br /> <br />Clarence C.
