Council Member Dallas moved to <br /> <br />adopt the following Resolution; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the <br /> <br />following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, <br /> <br />Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State Corporation Commission is considering <br />assigning a new telephone area code to the Martinsville, Virginia, <br />area; and <br />WHEREAS, a recent news release from the State Corporation <br />Commission indicated that there was a fifteen day public comment <br />period; and <br />WHEREAS, the new area code for the Martinsville, Virginia, area <br />would be different than the area code for the Roanoke, Virginia and <br />Danville, Virginia areas; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Martinsville wishes to <br />express its desire to share the same area code as Roanoke and <br />Danville; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville shares economic, educational, <br />medical, transportation, and regional alliances of various kinds with <br />both Roanoke and Danville; and <br />WHEREAS, the establishment of different area codes for these <br />areas, especially between Martinsville and Roanoke, will work a <br />hardship on the economic, business and other relationships that <br />exist between these areas; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of .:Mar~sville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled October ~:~:), -2000, Jhat it <br />does hereby request the State Corporation:,Gommission ~maintain <br /> <br /> <br />
