Phillips <br /> <br />OF APPRECIATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, for more than 100 years, the Martinsville Bulletin has been keeping the <br />citizens of Martinsville, Henry County and Patrick County informed about the <br />communities and the world; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, during the past year our community has experienced significant economic <br />difficulties and most recently the rapid loss of once stable employment has created much <br />anxiety and enormous financial hardship on many of our citizens; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Haskell family has contributed to the community throughout the years <br />and has now initiated and joined forces with the Public Welfare Foundation of <br />Washington D.C. to donate a total of $200,000 to five agencies (Family Life Services' <br />Medical Clinic, For the Children, Citizens Against Family Violence, the YMCA, and <br />Patrick Henry Community College) which are helping unemployed residents of the area; <br />now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, assembled in <br />regular session this the 281h day of November 2000, that said Council wishes to <br />recognize and express its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Haskell family and the <br />Martinsville Bulletin for their contributions to the community and creating and initiating <br />the spirit of giving. <br /> <br />Attest: <br /> <br />Johnathan B.
