Enclosure #2 <br /> <br />Martinsville <br />A CITY WITHOUT LIMITS <br /> <br />July 31, 2000 <br /> <br />The Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />City of Martinsville <br />Martinsville, Virginia <br /> <br />Council Members: <br /> <br />The Planning Commission, at its regular meeting on July 20, 2000, cohducted a public <br />hearing on a request from City Staff, to amend Section VII, General Sign Regulations, <br />Paragraph C., Permitted Signs, and Paragraph N., Permitted Signs in Districts, of the <br />Zoning Ordinance. The proposed amendment places all sign regulations in one location <br />of the ordinance and changes the total surface area of real estate signs. <br /> <br />At the Public Hearing, it was explained that the Zoning ordinance currently allows real <br />estate signs not exceeding eight (8) square feet in area. The proposed amendment allows <br />a combined total surface area not exceeding five (5) square feet, plus five (5) square feet <br />for each one hundred fifty (150) feet of lot line adjacent to a public street. <br /> <br />Following discussion of the proposed amendment, in which no opposition was expressed, <br />the Planning Commission voted unanimously (5 - 0) to recommend to City Council that <br />the Zoning Ordinance be amended as proposed (see attachment).
