<br />~30 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 25. 1955 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsvil1e, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber, City Hall, on Tuesday, January 25, 1955, at 7:30 P.M., all members, <br /> <br />as fol1mTs, being present: Mayor and CouncUman R. S. Hodnett; and <br /> <br />Councilmen C. P. Craig, B. H. Hill, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held January 11, 1955, upon being <br /> <br />read, were approved. <br /> <br />Reporting on the request referred by Council on J2nuary 11, 1955 to City <br /> <br />lIanager He.the\.J'son concerning a sewer line extension petition presented by <br /> <br />Rev. J. E. Wade (Pilgrim Baptist Church, Third and "D" Streets), Hr. <br /> <br />Mathewson reviewed related events through the following correspondence: <br /> <br />HE}'iORANDll}.1 <br /> <br />January 21, 1955 <br /> <br />To: Hr. Halker H. Graves, Director <br />\..[ater, Electric and Street Department <br /> <br />Subject: Report. of Sewer Line Request by Rev. J. E. Wade <br /> <br />Some months ago Rev. J. E. Wade came to my office and inquired as <br />to whether or not the church of which he is pastor, located at the <br />intersection of third and D Street, could obtain sewer service. <br />Dtlrjng the course of our conversation relating to this matter, <br />Hr. Hade indicated that the sewer lateral from the church would <br />have to drain bathrooms that would be located in the basement. <br /> <br />There is at present a six-inch seHer main beginning at the inter- <br />section of D and Second Street, westward along D Street for a <br />distance of approximately 175 feet. This sel,.rer main is approxinJate1y <br />three feet in depth and is now serving six houses, fu'1d CaD~ot be <br />extended any further towards third Street because of the change in <br />grade of this street beyond the end of the existing sewer li..Yle. <br />
