3~

TUESDAY

JAnUARY 13, 19? 2

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, '\"lith I\!layor John IN. Shultz presiding, was held in the Council Chamber,

City Hall, Tuesday, January D, 1959, at 7:30 P.M., all members being present,

as follows: rJayor and Councilman John vY. Shultz; Vice-Mayor and Courr:ilman

E. E. Stone; and Councilmen Rives S. Brown, Jr., Thomas J. B1...Tch, and Clarence

C. Donavant.

After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular meeting

held December 30, 1958.

After again considering the petition submitted December 16, 1958 by Messrs. CharI ie

J.:. Finney and R. A. Henderson, Sr., requesting permission to connect (their)

~('''i
'l~
;IS
I\L~

Edgewood Village Subd:'..vision--outside the City's corporato limits--to the City's

water supply system, and after reviewing a summary report of relevant policies

f allowed by other c Hies, C ounci 1 den ied the petitioners' reques t. There was

pointed out the fact that not only does the peti tioners' vrater distribution system

(tvro-inch mains) fail to meet the City's regulations governing the extension of

water service mains outside the corporate limits but that the petitioners had been

apprised of the City's reculations pertaining thereto on several occasions prior

to the subdivision development.

Council acknmvledged receint of the Planning Commission's recorru:lendation that a

pctition--subnL'l. tted by Lanier Farm, Inc., and requesting the rezoning from IIA-l

Residentialll to liB-I Business" th2.t triangular tract of land ovmed by Lanier Farm,

Inc., not already so zoned and located at t.'le intersection of Spruce and Brookdale

Streets--be granted. Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing on the

proposed rezoning to be hald at Council's meeting of February 10, 1959. The

records shows that Councilnl~'1 Brm'm, because of his interest in and business

connection wi th Lanier Farm, Ine., took no part in the above proceedings.
