<br />:92 <br /> <br />TUr;SDAY <br /> <br />JATmARY D, 1959 <br /> <br />U~)on inquiry of City ~,:anager Hirst, Council directed the CivJ Manager w forward <br /> <br />a copy of a draft of a proposed gas franchise to tho President of Southwestern <br /> <br />Virginia Gas Company and, also, at the same t:irne extend an invitation to Mr. <br /> <br />Williams, the President, to meet informally vrith the Conncil within the next <br /> <br />ten days to discuss the draft, at which meeting or meetings the public and press <br /> <br />will be invited. <br /> <br />Council continued i'or further' consideration the selection of nominees to the <br /> <br />Judc;e of the City CircuJ.t Court for the 1959 Board of l!;quahzation. <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved for City Manager Hirst's signature an agreement or <br /> <br />lease with the D. H. Pannill Estate heirs by which the City will operate a metered <br /> <br />off-,street parking lot on Pannill Estate property on the south side of Depot <br /> <br />Street between Franldin and Ford Streets. <br /> <br />No action was taken by Council on the reported resignation of Dr. T. H. Dickerson <br /> <br />from membership on the Human Values COIllTIi_ssion, effect:i_ve January 31, 1959. <br /> <br />Council referred to the P12nning Comm:i.ssion for its consideration and recommendation <br /> <br />a petition submitted by Messrs. John W. Yeaman and H. Lk'lrvin Midkiff through their <br /> <br />counsel, Broaddus, Ep:'Jerly, and Broaddus, Attorneys at La-,V'. This [Btition requested <br /> <br />the amending of the City's Zoning Code to provide for either or both of the <br /> <br />follovdng : <br /> <br />A professional district (medical) which would provide such a district or <br />districts ,.,herein buildings would be used for any me pennitted in <br />residence districts or for certain basic medic al uses; a professional <br />district (general) -which would provide districts ..,herein the permitted <br />use would be th ose uses allmved in residence districts, those uses allowed <br />in professional d:Lstricts, (medical) and certain other type of professional <br />c2.tegories, inc 11J.ding az,encies but excepting those involving retail trade. <br />
