<br />4 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 14, 1959 <br /> <br />..- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly neeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor John W. Shultz presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, Tuesday, July 14, 1959, at 6:30 P.M., the following nembers bei~ <br /> <br />present: Mayor and Coun::ilman John W. Shultz; Vice-Mayor and Councilman E. E. <br /> <br />Stone; and Councilman Clarence C. Donavant. <br /> <br />,,- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held June 23, 1959 and of its special meeting held June 30, 1959. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged the presence of Mrs. William Norton's Martinsville High <br /> <br />School summer school government class. <br /> <br />Council then convened a public hearing on a petition presented May 26, 1959 by a <br /> <br />corporation known as "Fifteen Cleveland, Inc.", requesting the rezoning of their <br /> <br />property at 15 Cleveland Avenue from "A-l Residential" to "business use" classi- <br /> <br />fication with professional usage restrictions and/at' covenants. Various owners of <br /> <br />property in the area of the petitioner's property were present to discuss a question <br /> <br />of set-back establishment on the east side of Cleveland Avenue but no one raised any <br /> <br />..-.. <br /> <br />objections to the proposed rezoning. Council, thereupon, unanimously accepted the <br /> <br />Planning Connnission's reconnnendation submitted thereon June 16, 1959 and, further, <br /> <br />adopted the following ordiname amending the City's Zoning Code, thus approv~ the <br />petition for rezoning (NarE: although plans fer the petitioner's building to be <br /> <br />constructed on the property call for a thirty-foot set-back, p:ltitioner verbally <br /> <br />indicated at this hearing a prefereme fer a twenty-one-foot set-back): <br /> <br />BE IT CRDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this fourteenth day of July, 1959, that <br />the Zoning Code and Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville be and is <br />hereby amended to provide that the property located at 15 Clevelarrl <br />
