<br />I (I() <br />~ ,.:.. <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 27, 1972 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, June <br /> <br />27, 1972, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all <br /> <br />members being present, with the exception of Councilman W. Donald Hartford <br /> <br />(who was ill), viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Francis T. West, Vice Mayor; <br /> <br />Harry L. Boaz; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />After the invocation, and with the addition of reference--inadvertently <br /> <br />omitted from Council's minutes of meeting held June 13, 1972--to Mr. H. L. <br /> <br />Griggs' letter suggesting property tax relief for the elderly and/or <br /> <br />retired property owners, now permitted under State statutes, which suggestion <br /> <br />was referred to City Manager Noland for study, Council approved, as recorded, <br /> <br />the minutes of said meeting held June 13, 1972. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a Public Hearing <br /> <br />on the Planning Commission's recommendations dated April 21, 1972 pertaining <br /> <br />to changing and/or establishing certain street names coincident with the <br /> <br />current Route 57 relocation. After receiving objections to the changes <br /> <br />recommended as to Lester Street, Ellsworth Street, and a short portion of <br /> <br />Northside Drive between Fairy Street and East Church Street, principally <br /> <br />from Ellsworth Street residents and from Lester Lumber Company and from the <br /> <br />Martinsvi lIe-Henry UliDDilUUDUUUIXDXHlXJOi~~U~lDfX~~~KK <br /> <br />~X~X~~>>XXX~XE>>K~ County Life Saving & Rescue Squad, Council directed that <br /> <br />the following names and/or revisions be in effect: <br /> <br />(1) The current Route 57 relocation (presently ending at Chatham <br />Road), from and including its ultimate extension eastward to <br />East Church Street to and including the present Armory Road <br />be names Commonwealth Boulevard; <br />
