<br />~94 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 25. 1955 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Counoil of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Counoil <br />Chamber, City Hall, on 'fuesday, Ootober 25, 1955, at 7:30 P.M., with all <br />members present, as follows: Mayor and Counoilman R. S. Hodnett; Vice-Mayor <br />and Counoilman C. P. Craig; and Councilmen B. H. Hill, W. T. Turner, and <br />J. R.Walker. <br /> <br />Minutes of the Counoil meeting held October 11, 1955, after being oorreoted <br /> <br />and olarified with respect to Council's reaction to the October 11th request <br /> <br />from the Martinsville High Sohool Government Class, were approved. <br /> <br />City Manager Mathewson reported that in response to the City's duly-advertised <br />public notice bids were received in his office at 10:00 A.M. of Ootober 17, <br />1955 for option to purohase a small triangular tract of land (owned ~J the <br />Ci ty) fronting approximately forty feet on the North side of Memorial <br />Boulevard near the intersection of said Memorial Boulevard and Bridge Street. <br />Actually, only one bid was received, viz., that of Messrs. Benton S. Blaokard <br />and Charlie H. Finney in the amount of $350.00 cash. Upon being advised that this <br />bid meets all conditions outlined in the notice, Counoil unanimously accepted <br />said bid and, also, approved for City Manager Mathewson's signature a deed <br />conveying said property to Messrs. Blackard and Finney. <br /> <br />City Manager Mathewson next reported on developments regarding the City's <br />recent application submitted to the Federal Housing and Home Finance Agenoy <br />for an advance planning loan for proposed sewerage system improvements, a <br />report of which has also been forwarded to the State Water Control Board for <br />their meeting to be held October 27, 1955. <br />
