<br />3~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTnmER 27. 1955 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsvi11e, <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, September 27, 1955, at 7:30 P.M., with all members <br /> <br />present, as follows: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett; Vice-Mayor and Councilman <br />C. P. Craig; and Councilmen B. H. Hill, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />,'--- <br /> <br />Minutes of the Council meetings held August 23rd, August 30th, and September 6th <br />(1955) were approved as read. <br /> <br />The City School Board reported through City Manager Mathewson that it is in the <br /> <br />process of filing an application with the Federal Government for a non-interest <br /> <br />loan to help finance the cost of architectural plans for the proposed Albert Harris <br />High School Building and suggested that Council defer action on the School Board's <br /> <br />[m~ <br />~~ <br />~r <br />i <br /> <br />request of September 6th pending the Federal Government's action on said application. <br /> <br />In connection with the Lanier Farm-K. C. Whittle petition requesting the rezoning <br /> <br />to "Business" of eight lots owned by the petitioners in Section "J" of Forest Park <br />(off Lanier Road), on which petition a public hearing was conducted by Council on <br />September 6th, Council deferred rendering its decision on this matter until its <br /> <br />"',-. <br /> <br />next regular meeting. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Mathewson, Council approved for Mr. Mathewson's <br /> <br />signature a contract with Michie City Publications, Charlottesville, Virginia, where- <br /> <br />by this firm will prepare and print a complete new code for the City of Martinsville <br />for the sum of $4,250.00, furnishing one hundred copies of said code. Council requested <br /> <br />tha t the cost of copies in excess of the contracted number be ascertained in the event <br /> <br />Council desires additional copies; and upon recommendation of City Attorney Stone, <br /> <br />Council went on record as requesting the local Bar Association to appoint a committee <br />
