<br />>49 <br />rill -.. <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 22. 195~ <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, June 22, 1954, at 7:30 P.M., the following members <br /> <br />being present: Mayor and Councillnan R. S. Hodnett, and Councilmen C. P. <br /> <br />Craig, W. T. Turner, and J. R. vlalker. Councilman D. H. Goode was absent. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular meeting held June 8, 1954, upon being read, were <br /> <br />approved. <br /> <br />Council deferred its regular order of business to hear from Mr. W. R. Broaddus, <br /> <br />Jr., of Broaddus, Epperly & Broaddus, Attorneys-at-Law, who appeared before <br /> <br />Council as counsel for Mr. P. S. Ford, informing Council that all of the <br /> <br />details in connection with the carrying out of Courlcil's acceptance of Mr. <br /> <br />Ford's offer received by Council on April 27, 1954 had been completed with <br /> <br />the exception of the signing of the deed by the City and the receiving of <br /> <br />the City's check of $12,900.00 for that portion of }tt. Ford's property des- <br /> <br />cribed in said offer. By a recorded vote which was unanimous, Council <br /> <br />authorized Mayor Hodnett to execute said deed on behalf of the City. <br /> <br />In connection with a verbal offer made to Council May 25, 1954 by Rev. J. G. <br /> <br />Houck for a triangular piece of land owned by the City at or near the Lavinder <br /> <br />street Intersection with the new Route 220 Thoroughfare, Council requested <br /> <br />from Mr. Houck, through his comlsel, a written confirmation of said offer <br /> <br />and a written proposal. <br /> <br />In response to Council's request of June 8, 1954 the Planning Commission <br /> <br />submitted the following report in which it recommended approval of a proposed <br /> <br />subdivision on Pine Hall Road, as proposed bj- Mr. Horace G. Dyer; however, <br /> <br />Cound.l "tabled" this matter for f'u.rther consideration: <br />
