<br />19 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 26, 1954 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of :Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia was held in the Council Chaniber, City Hall, on Tuesday, January 26, 1954, <br /> <br />at 7:30 P.M., the following members being present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. <br /> <br />Hodnett, and Councilmen C. P. Craig, D. H. Goode, and J. R. Walker,--Councilman <br /> <br />W. T. Turner being absent. <br /> <br />.,- <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held January 32, 1954, upon being read, <br /> <br />were approved. <br /> <br />Before taking up its regular order of business, Council recognized the presence <br /> <br />of visitors, one of whom was Mr. Philmore Minter of Graves Street, who called <br /> <br />Council's attention to the lack of adequate sewerage facilities on Graves, Oak, <br /> <br />~'" <br />i~ <br />i <br /> <br />and Douglas Streets. Other visitors were present merely to observe the Council <br /> <br />meeting or to discuss certain items on the agenda in which they were especially <br /> <br />interested. <br /> <br />The first item on the agenda was a proposed ordinance (on second reading) amending <br /> <br />the City's Zoning Map and Zoning Code to provide for rezoning of properties along <br /> <br />the new Route 220 Thoroughfare or Distribution Road. A public hearing having <br /> <br />already been conducted on this matter and no objections having been registered <br /> <br />with the Council, said, proposed ordinance, as placed on first reading January 12, <br /> <br />1954, was unanimously adopted. <br /> <br />A resolution providing for the closing and vacating of Alpine and Spruce Streets <br /> <br />in the vicinity of the intersection of Lavinder Street with the new Route 220 <br /> <br />Thoroughfare and for the closing and vacating of a portion of said Lavinder Street <br /> <br />south of said Route 220 Thoroughfare and lying along the front of Lots 60, 61, 62, <br /> <br />and 63, was unanimously adopted, as follows: <br />
