<br />L92 <br /> <br />TUES DAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 26, 1954 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in its regular meeting held December 22, 1953 Martinsville City <br />Council received and accepted a report dated December 18, 1953 submitted <br />by Martinsville City Planning Commission wherein said Commission recommended <br />(1) that streets presently designated as Alpine Street and Spruce Street in <br />the vicinity of the intersection of Lavinder Street with the new Route 220 <br />Thoroughfare be officially abandoned and/or vacated by the City of <br />Martinsville, which two streets have never been opened, and (2) that a portion <br />of Lavinder Street south of the row Route 220 Thoroughfare and lying along the <br />front of Lots No. 60, 61, 62, and 63 be abandoned and/or vacated by the City <br />of Marti nsville; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on JanuaI".{ 12, 1954, in regular meeting assembled, and after having <br />given a duly-advertised public notice, Martinsville City Council conducted <br />a public hearing on said Planning Commission's recommendation as outlined <br />above; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS no objections have been registered with the Council to said proposal <br />by arw citizen or group of citizens; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this twenty-sixth day of January, 1954 that it <br />doth hereby vacate said Alpine and Spruce Streets in the vicinity of <br />Lavinder Street and said protion of Lavinder Street described hereinabove; <br />and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Attorney of the Cit,y of Martinsville is <br />hereby authorized and instructed to take such legal steps on behalf of the <br />City of Martinsville as may be necessary to effect forthwith the closing of <br />said streets mentioned herein; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the <br />Clerk of the C:ircuit Court of the City of Martinsville with the request that <br />he mark IIvacatedll on his records relating thereto said Alpine and Spruce <br />Streets and said portion of Lavinder Street. <br /> <br />Next, City Manager Mathewson reported that he had conferred further with Mr. G. T. <br /> <br />Lester, Jr. on Mr. Tester's recent suggestion that Tester Airport on Liberty <br /> <br />Street be closed and that 1w. Lester indicated that he might develop a runway off <br /> <br />the present airport runway towards Route 220-Roanoke highway or he might be <br /> <br />interested in leasing the airport strip runway on the City's property on Route <br /> <br />220 south. <br />
