<br />TUES DA. Y <br /> <br />MAY 27, 1952 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with ;'IIayor J. R. Walker pt'esiding, was held in the Council Chamber on Tuesday, ~;lay 27, <br /> <br />1952, at 7:30 o'clock P. M., all oombers, as follows, being pt'esent: Mayor and Councilman <br /> <br />J. R. Walker, and Courcilmen R. S. Brown, Jr., C. P. Craig, R. S. Hodnett, and W. T. Turner. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council rooeting held May 13, 1952, and of the special Council <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />meeting held May 20, 1952, upon being read, were appro\red. <br /> <br />Council deferred its regular order of busiress to hear A ttarney John Hartley, representing <br /> <br />the local theatre owners-operator, ask the Council for permission, wil.ich was granted, <br /> <br />to appear at a later date before Council in an appeal and petition for the abolition of <br /> <br />the City's Amusement Admission Tax Ordinance as it affects local theatre operations. <br /> <br />~-- <br />~~ <br />~ <br /> <br />Resuming the regu18r order of business, Council received a report from the Planning <br /> <br />Commission in which the Commission, after conducting a public hearing on May 26, 1952 <br /> <br />on the matter, reaffirmed its earlier recolT'Jnemation that the width of Mulberry Road <br /> <br />from Parkview Street to the Corporate Limits be established as (and at) forty-eight <br /> <br />(J..j.81) feet. The Commission also reported and recolTL:1ended that the name "Red Hill Lane" <br /> <br />,<- <br /> <br />street be changed to "Windsor Lane". Council unanimously accepted said recommendation <br /> <br />and ordered same effected. <br /> <br />Next, City l1anager Mathewson pt'eserrted to Council a proposed lease aE,Teerrent which he <br /> <br />recommended be executed by and with the local Police Club, Inc., for the supervising <br /> <br />of fishing and boating activities at the City's Smith Lake. Council, in approving said <br /> <br />agreement, empowered the City ManaGer to execute same in accordance with his recOlTLTnendation. <br />
