<br />4~ <br /> <br />TOES DAY <br /> <br />MARCH 10, 1959 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor John W. Shultz presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, <br /> <br />Tuesday, March 10, 1959, at 6:30 P.M., the following members being present: Mayor and <br /> <br />Councilman John W. Shultz; Vice-Mayor and Councilman E. E. stone; and Councilmen R. S. <br /> <br />Brawn, Jr., and C. C. Donavant. C ounc ilman Thomas J. Burch was absent because of <br /> <br />illness. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read tiE minutes of its regular rooeting held <br /> <br />Fe bruary 24, 1959. <br /> <br />Pursu2.nt to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on a <br /> <br />I~'i;g. <br />I~~, <br />f,)~.L <br />I"~' <br />1!1..:'1::'.'c I <br />~ <br /> <br />proposal which would establish specified set-back lines on Northside Ilr'ive (East- <br /> <br /> <br />North Conrector Street). There being no one present objecting to the proposal, <br /> <br />Council adopted the following ordinance amending the City's Zoning Code and Map to <br /> <br />provide for set-back lines hereinafter described: <br /> <br />BE IT CRDAINED by the Courx:il of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this tenth day of March, 1959, that the City's <br />Zoning Code and Map be and is hereby arrended to provide for a "15-foot <br />setback" on both sides of Northside Ilr'ive (East-North Connector Route) <br />through that portion of Lester Lumber Company pr'operty now zoned for <br />business purposes. <br /> <br />An emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force from date of <br />passage. <br /> <br />On behalf of the National Fire Protective Association, Fire Chief Clay A. Easterly <br /> <br />presented plaques to Council in recognition of the outstanding fire prevention honors <br /> <br />awarded the City of Martinsville Fire Department, both salaried and volunteer members, <br /> <br />for the calendar year 1958 (see February lOth minutes). <br />
