<br />1~ <br /> <br />1'UESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 14. 1957 <br /> <br />e".- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City ot Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor John V. Shultz presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, May 14, 1957, at 7:30 P.M., the following members being <br />present: Mayor and Councilman John W. Shultz; Vice-Mayor and Councilman E. E. <br /> <br />Stone; and Councilmen C. C. Donavant and B. H. Hill. Councilman J. R. Walker <br /> <br />was absent because of illness. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held April 23, 1957 and of its special meetings held April 26, 1957, <br />May 3, 1957, and May 8, 1957, noting that the reference in the April 26th <br />meeting to the imposing of a charge of $1.00 per month on each monthly City <br />utility bill to help finance the school building program, subject to the <br /> <br />forthcoming school bond election, should read "special tax" instead of "service <br /> <br />~,g <br />,~co <br />~3~ <br />7-; <br />~ <br /> <br />charge" . <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br />on a Planning Commission recommendation that the present B-1 (Commercial) <br /> <br />zoning depth along Memorial Boulevard South between Joseph Martin School and <br /> <br />",...-~ <br /> <br />the former intersection of Rivermont Heights be increased to follow more <br /> <br />nearly existing property lines and natural boundaries, or to a depth varying <br />from approximately 200 teet to 235 feet. There being no objections registered, <br />Council etfected said recommendation by adopting with emergency clause attached <br /> <br />the following ordinance amending the City Zoning Code and Zoning Maps <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsv1lle, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this fourteenth day of May, 1957, that <br />the Zoning Code and Zoning Map of the City ot Martinsville be and is <br />hereby amended to provide that B-1 (Commercial) zoning along and on <br />both sides ot Memorial Boulevard South between Joseph Martin School <br />and the foraer intersection of Rivermont Heights shall extend for a <br />depth varying from approximately 200 feet to 235 feet, following <br />more nearly existing property lines and natural boundaries, in <br />accordanu with map approved by Martinsville City Council and <br />recorded in the Clerk's office of Martinsville City Circuit Court. <br /> <br />An emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force from date of <br />passage. <br />
