LOO TUESDAY JANUARY 22 OJ 1957 The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Vice-Mayor John YI. Shultz presiding in the absence of Mayor F. V. Wooc1.son, who was ill, was neld in the Council Chamber, City Hall, on Tuesday, JanuaIJ' 22, 1957, at 7:30 P.lt., the following members being present: Vice-Ma;yor and Councilman John W. Shultz; and Councilmen B. H. Hill, E. E. stone, and J. R. W'alker. Aft.er the ir.vocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular meeting held January 8, 1957. Upon motion, Council accepted the following January 14th (1957) report and recorrmendation of the ?lanning Commission pertainL~ to their recommended planning pr oe,r am, authorizing the execution of a contract with City &: Tovm Planning Associates, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with the understanding that the $1,500.00 appropriation in the current budget will be sufficient to carry out the ....mrk during the current fiscal year and that the remainder of the total- $15,ooo.oO--cost, part of which is to be shared in by the Virginia Department of Highways and the Federal Bureau of Public Roads OJ 1ifill be appropriated in the 1957-58 and 1958-59 budgets: Honoreble Mayor and City Council Ci ty of ~[artinsvi1le, Virginia Gentlemen: Your Plaming Cor.nnission, on October 23, 1956, reported to you its activities in regard to a planning program for Martinsville. In this report they endorsed a proposal for planning fcr Martinsville submitted by James M. Webb and As~ociates to cost $lO,OOOplus a request to the State Highway' ~partrnent to conduct a traffic study which would be necessary for a thoroughfare study for T.'tartinsvi lie.
