<br />3~ <br /> <br />JANUARY 9, 1962 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meetirg of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br /> <br />Virginia, wi th Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br /> <br />Cit,y Hall, Tuesday, January 9, 1962, at 7:15 P.M., all members being present, <br /> <br />viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick; Thomas J. Burch; E. E. <br /> <br /> <br />Stone j and Harry L. Boaz. <br /> <br />,.-- <br /> <br />After the invocation, C ouneil approved as read the minutes of its regular meeting <br />held December 19, 1961. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br />a proposal to request the 1962 Virginia General Assembly to amend the City's <br />Charter to permit the City to exercise the power of eminent domain in conformity <br />with that permitted the Virginia Departrrent of Highways (the State Highway <br />Commission), which legislation would amend paragraph 33 of Section 2 of Chapter 1 <br />of the City Charter, as referred to in Council minutes of December 12, 1961. <br />There being no objections presented at this public hearing, Council unanimously' <br />requested--through State Senator William F. S tone--the 1962 General Assembly to <br />enact this permissive legislation. <br /> <br />By letter dated December 22, 1961, the McCabe Memorial Baptist Church registered <br /> <br /> <br />its objections to certain provisions of the proposed Zoning C ode revisions as <br /> <br />these provisions apply to churches and particularly to the McCabe Memorial Baptist <br /> <br />Church. Gouncil continued this petition for inclusion in Cour:cil's consideration <br /> <br /> <br />of the proposed Zoning Code revisions. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />In reviewing Lanier Farm'S October 9th (1961) petition requesting the City to <br /> <br /> <br />annex all property owned by Lan:ier Farm, Inc., between Mulberry Road on the south, <br /> <br />Old Danville Road on the north, and to the corporate limits of the City of <br />
