Y <br /> <br />JAN1.m.RY 9, 1962 <br /> <br />Martinsville, Council suggested that--in expressing its neutral position in this <br /> <br />matter--the petitioner exercise his prerogative, if he so chooses, of instituting <br /> <br />and pursuing annexation proceedings as provided by law. <br /> <br />Council continued until its next regular meeting the appointing and/or re-appointing <br /> <br />of two members to the Human Values Commission, the current terms of Messrs. Frank <br /> <br />D. Fulton and Thornton G. W'ampler expiring January 31, 1962. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst presented a financial status report for ihe period ended <br /> <br /> <br />December 31, 1961, on the current sewerage system improvements program and, also, <br /> <br />the conclusions reached at the January 8th conference with Mr. J. Gordon Bennett, <br /> <br /> <br />of the State C onnnission on Local Debt, as to the marketing of $1,300,000 Sewerage <br /> <br />System Improvement Bonds. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported that Mr. Frederick Huette, Superintendent of Parks <br />for the City of Norfolk, Virginia, in response to an invitation extended by the <br />City of Martinsville, has indicated his intention of visiting Martimville on <br />January 26, 1962, for the purpose of viewing the City's East Church Street Park <br />and developing recommendations for the improvement thereof. <br /> <br />Through its past president, Mr. Robert L. Draper, the Martinsville Volunteer Fire <br />Compan.y (by letter dated January 5, 1962) requested Council's approval--which was <br />unanimously given--of a revision of the Company's Constitution and By-Laws whereby <br />the age limit for members of the Company will be changed from 18-55 years of age <br />(56th birthday) to 18-65 years of age. <br /> <br />Council unanimously endorsed for Mayer Wilson's execution a proclamation <br /> <br />designating the forthcoming week of January 21-26, 1962, as Jaycee Week, to <br /> <br />
