<br />1~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MARCH 22, 1960 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Vice-Mayor stone presiding in the abserne of Mayor Shultz, was <br /> <br />held in the COUll:: il Chamber, City Hall, Tuesday, March 22, 1960, at 6 :30 P. M., the <br /> <br />following IOOmbers being present: Vice-Mayor and Cournilman E. E. Stone; and <br /> <br />Councilmen Thomas J. Burch, Clarence D. Donavant, and J. Frank Wilson. <br /> <br />-., <br />/ <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held March 8, 1960. <br /> <br />Council adopted, on third reading and as revised, the following ordinance amending <br /> <br />Section 2-4 of Chapter 2, Part II, of the City Code, pertaining to the keeping of <br /> <br />livestock and fowl within the City: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />reGular meeti.ng asseIl'bled this uventy-second day of March, 1960, that <br />section 2-4 of Chapter 2 Part II of the C ode of the City of Martinsville <br />be and is hereby amended to provide as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 2-4. Keeping livestock and fowl within the City.2 <br /> <br />(a) It shall be unlawful to keep or maintain any hog, pig, goat <br />or sheep within the corporate limits of this City. This section shall not <br />prohibit the transportation of such animals through the City. <br /> <br />Any person, firm or corporation now keeping such animals in <br />violation of this provision shall have twelve months from March 22, 1960, <br />to comply with the provisions hereof, after which time such person, firm or <br />corporation so failing to comply with this provision shall be subject to the <br />penalties hereinafter set forth. <br /> <br />(b) Except as herein otherwise provided, it shall be unlavrful for <br />any person to keep within the corporate limits of the City any horse, mule, <br />cow, chicken, turkey, duck or other like animal classed as livestock or fowl <br />except those confimd in an enclosed pen, cage or stable, not closer than a <br />distance of two hundred feet to any dwelling or building occupied for business <br />purposes, provided, further, that any person desiring to keep such animal or <br />fowl within the corpore,te limits of the City must make application to the <br />direc tor of public health for a perJ'11.i t accompanied by the vr.ritten permission <br />of every adult person residing or doing business wi thin a dis tance of three <br />hundred feet from where the pen, cage or stable is to be located, agreeing <br />unanimously to the keeping of such animal or fowl. <br />
