<br />464 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 26, 1965 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held Tuesday, October <br /> <br />26, 1965, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, all <br /> <br />members being present with the exception of Councilman Harry L. Boaz, viz., <br /> <br />Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick, M.D.; Thomas J. Burch; and <br />E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its <br /> <br />regular meeting held October 12, 1965. <br /> <br />By letter dated October 26th, the Planning Commission recommended that the <br /> <br />Ben W. Via property on the west side of Ellsworth Street be rezoned to <br /> <br />"C-2 CommerciaP, as requested in petition jointly filed by Mr. Via and the <br /> <br />First National Bc:mk of Martinsville & Henry County. In tentative acceptance <br /> <br />of the Commission's recommendation, Council called for a duly-advertised <br /> <br />public hearing to be held on this matter at Council's regular meeting <br /> <br />scheduled for Tuesday, November 23, 1965. <br /> <br />By separate report, also dated October 26th, the Planning Commission--noting, <br /> <br />however, that much opposition has been registered by residential property <br /> <br />owners in the area involved--recommended th,%the K. C. Whittle property on the <br /> <br />northeast side of Brookdale Road be rezoned from rtR-9 Residentiali' to <br /> <br />"C-2 Commercial" for a depth of three hundred feet, between the most northerly <br /> <br /> <br />property line of the Whittle property to a line perpendicular to Brookdale <br /> <br />Road opposite the intersection of curb-and-gutter at Brookdale Road and Spruce <br /> <br />Street. Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be held on <br /> <br />this proposal at Council's regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November <br /> <br />23, 1965. <br /> <br />~ <br />
