<br />,- <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />,....-... <br /> <br />".- <br /> <br />4€ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 26, 1965 <br /> <br />Council continued for further consideration the presentation of nominees <br /> <br />to the Judge of Martinsville City Circuit Court for appointment to the 1966 <br /> <br />Board of Assessors. <br /> <br />The lease agreement having expired, as acquired by the City with its purchase <br /> <br />of the John R. Smith Estate property on West Church Street and providing for <br /> <br />the operation of an off-street parking lot by Mr. Benton S. Blackard, and a <br /> <br />new agreernent (in the form of a letter) having been prepared in accordance with <br /> <br />Council's instructions, Council unanimously approved said new lease agreement <br /> <br />which provides for a monthly rental of $350.00 and, among other conditions, <br /> <br />thirty days' cancellation notice on part of City, and no maintenance or improve- <br /> <br />ments by City. <br /> <br />Council also approved for execution by the City of a contract or lease agreement <br /> <br />with the Camp Branch Corporation (Mrs. Elsie S. Watt, President) for use of <br /> <br />certain lands by the City's Prison Farm Division in its quarrying operations, <br /> <br />terms and conditions being similar to the contract or agreement recently expired. <br /> <br />Pursuant to recommendation of City Attorney Cubine and Traffic-Planning Engineer <br /> <br />Irving R. McGhee, Council adopted the following ordinance amending Section 9-91 <br /> <br />of the City Code, relating to movement of large motor vehicles over highways <br /> <br />through the City: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-sixth day of October, 1965, <br />that Section 9-91 of the CODE OF THE CITY OF MARTINSVILLE, VIRGINIA <br />(1956, and as amended) be and is hereby amended so as to read as presently <br />stated but with (and tc include) the following paragraph: <br /> <br />Upon application in writing and good cause being shown therefor, <br />the traffic engineer may issue a special permit (which shall be <br />in writing) authorizing the applicant to operate or move a vehicle <br />upon the highway, when the size of such vehicle exceeds the <br />maximum specified in this title, for which permit such applicant <br />shall pay to the city a fee of two dollars. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that this ordinance shall be in force on and <br />after November 15 , 1965. <br />
