<br />~10 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 1, 1 965 <br /> <br />A special and duJy-called meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held Tuesday, June 1, <br /> <br />1965, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., for the purpose <br /> <br />of receiving the City Manager's proposed City Budget for the fiscal year ending <br /> <br />June 30, 1966, and for the purpose of considering such other matters of business <br /> <br />as might come before the Council. All members of Council were present, viz., <br /> <br />Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Dr. F. T. Renick, Vice-Mayor; Harry L. Boaz; Thomas J. <br /> <br />Burch; and E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />After the :invocation and the stating of the primary purpose of the meeting, <br /> <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst presented his recommended City Budget for the fiscal year <br /> <br /> <br />ending June 30, 1966, accompanied by his Budget Message and by his comments on <br /> <br />major items of the proposed budget--which called for total expenditures of <br /> <br /> <br />$6,109,998.46 during the 1965-66 year--including comments on financial problems <br /> <br /> <br />encountered in the preparation of this recommended budget. Upon motion, duly <br /> <br /> <br />seconded and unanimously carried, Council placed said recommended budget on <br /> <br />first reading and, also, called for a public hearing thereon to be conducted <br /> <br />Tuesday, June 22, 1965, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall. <br /> <br />In response to an inquiry from Mr. R. P. Gravely, Chairman of the Blue Ridge <br /> <br />Airport Authority, Council indicated that decision as to disposition of the <br /> <br />present City-owned and City-leased airport site might be deferred until such <br /> <br /> <br />time as the Blue Ridge Airport (Patrick-Henry Airport, as referred to in minutes <br /> <br /> <br />of May 25th) is completed and is put into operation. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of the City1s consulting engineers (Wiley & Wilson, <br /> <br /> <br />Lynchburg, Virginia) and with the concurrence of the City's Public Works <br /> <br /> <br />Department and the City Manager, Council accepted the bid of $64,993.00 <br />
