:80

TUESDAY

MARCH 23, 1965

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held Tuesday, March 23,

1965, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, all

members being present with the exception of Dr. F. T. Renick, Vice-Mayor,

because of illness. Thus, members present were: Mayor J. Frank Wilson;

Thomas J. Burch; Harry L. Boaz; and E. E. stone.

After the invocation, the Council approved as recorded the minutes of its

regular meeting held March 9, 1965.

Council continued for further consideration the offer of Mr. R. E. Seidle, Jr.,

submitted March 9, 1965, to purchase for the sum of $100.00 the City's 1924

American-Lafrance Fire Engine for restoration purposes. Council was informed

that Mr. Seidle has withdrawn his offer but, at Council's suggestion, has agreed

to reinstate said offer pending a decision from the Martinsville Volunteer Fire

Company aE: to whether it wishes to restore this engine and pending Council's

action thereon.

Council also continued for study a proposal submitted February 9, 1965, by

Mr. C. Harry Anglin for a franchise to construct and operate a CATV system in

Martinsville. Present was 11r. Anglin, who offered to supply any additional

informaticn Council might wish to have; and, also, Mr. William Lawless,

operator of Skywaves TV, who expressed the desire for an opportunity at some

point to elaborate on reasons supporting his objection--and that of his

colleagues--to granting any CATV franchise in the City.

City Manager Hirst informed Council that the date for receiving bids on the

City's proposed new central (main) fire station, to be constructed at the

corner of Church & Moss Streets, has been rescheduled from April 15, 1965, to

April 22, 1965.
