<br />31 <br /> <br />THURSDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 1. 1964 <br /> <br />c~ <br /> <br />A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, Thursday, October 1, 1964, beginning at 4:30 P.M., for the stated <br />purpose of (1) receiving and considering the salary and expense requests of <br />the sever~l constitutional officers for the calendar year 1965; (2) considering <br /> <br />and acting upon bids received for phase of electric system capital improvement; <br /> <br />and (3) considering a request for cancellation of real estate taxes on the J. R. <br /> <br /> <br />'Smith Estate property from the date property was acquired by the City. All <br /> <br /> <br />members of Council were present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred <br /> <br />T. Renick, M.D.; Harry L. Boaz; Thomas J. Burch; and E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />After the invocation, and after the stating of the purpose of the meeting by <br /> <br /> <br />Mayor Wilson, Council unanimously agreed to consider such other matters as are <br /> <br /> <br />incorporated in these minutes as were not included in the stated purpose of <br /> <br />the meeting. <br /> <br />By notice dated September 24, 1964, the Compensation Board of the Commonwealth <br /> <br />of Virginia informed Council that the Board will convene in Richmond, Virginia, <br /> <br />on October 7, 1964, for the purpose of fixing the salaries and expenses <br /> <br />(allowance:,) of the various "consti tutional" (elected) officers of the City of <br /> <br />Martinsville for the calendar year 1965. Council acknowledged receipt of the <br /> <br />salary and expense requests of the City Treasurer, the City Commissioner of the <br /> <br />Revenue, the City Commonwealth's Attorney, and the City Sergeant, for the year <br /> <br /> <br />1965, but took no action on EJaid requests pending study. Council indicated <br /> <br /> <br />that it would consider these requests perhaps on October 5th. <br />
