<br />City Manager Hirst presented the following tabulation of bids received

<br />Upon recommendation of the City's consulting engineers, viz. , Southeastern
<br />
<br />Consulting Engineers, Inc., Charlotte, North Carolina, and upon recommendation
<br />
<br />of City Manager Hirst, Council accepted the lowest bid, being that of Hunter &
<br />
<br />Walden, of Charlotte, North ~arolina, and awarded contract to this firm in the
<br />
<br />net amount of $202,738.24, inasmuch as all bids included the value of the City's
<br />
<br />new oil circuit breaker station. City Manager Hirst informed Council that funds
<br />
<br />are available in the Electric Fund to finance the cost of this construction.
<br />
<br />Having been informed that real estate taxes assessed against the John R. Smith
<br />
<br />Estate on property acquired by the City as of July 1, 1964, have been paid by
<br />
<br />the Estate to July 1, 1964, Council exornerated the Estate of the taxes for
<br />
<br />the remainder of the year inasmuch as by the City's acquisition the
<br />
<br />property
<br />
<br />became tax-exempt.
