<br />3:1 <br /> <br />THURSDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 1. 1964 <br /> <br />By copy of resolution, the Board of Supervisors of Henry County notified Council <br /> <br />that the Board is requesting financial assistance from the Norfolk & Western <br /> <br />Railway toward the cost of ~onstructing an industrial access road to serve both <br /> <br />present a:~d anticipated industrial development in the Rives Road area, connecting <br /> <br />same acrO:3S or under Norfolk & Western right-of-way to U. OS. Route 22J South. <br /> <br />The Supervisors also asked Council's support and endorsement of the 'Supervisors' <br /> <br />action ami resolution; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, <br /> <br />and with :c'equest that the Virginia Department of Highways confer with City <br /> <br />officials to coordinate such a project with the City's Thoroughfare Plan, Council <br /> <br />adopted the following resolution of support and endorsement: <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE ACTION OF THE HENRY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS <br />IN REQUE'STING FINANCIAL AID FROM THE NORFOLK & WESTERN RAILWAY COMPANY <br />TOWAHD COST OF CONSTRUCTING INDUSTRIAL ACCESS ROADS TO CONNECT TO U.S. <br />ROUTE 220 SOUTH <br /> <br />WHEREAS, by resolution the Board of Supervisors of the County of Henry <br />has cited the urgent need for the constructing of an industrial access <br />road from Route 957, across the Norfolk & 'Western Railway Company's <br />right-of-way to Route 707, and thence across Smith River to Route 220 <br />'South to provide a ready access to the American Furniture Company's <br />Redd Level plant and to proposed new industrial development; and <br /> <br />'WHEREAS, said Board of Supervisors of the County of Henry has requested <br />the Norfolk & Western P~ilway Company's serious consideration toward <br />substantially contributing toward the cost of constructing such an <br />industrial access road, inasmuch as industrial development in the cited <br />area would provide additional revenue for the Norfolk & 'Western Railway <br />Company; and <br /> <br />'WHEREAS, said Board of 'Supervisors has requested the Council of the <br />City of Martinsville, Virginia, to join in said Supervisors' petition <br />to the Norfolk & Western Railway Company for financial assistance <br />toward said industrial access road construction; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of theCi ty of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in special and duly-called meeting held this first day of October, 1964, <br />that it does hereby support the Henry County Board of Supervisors in its <br />petition for financial assistance from the Norfolk & Western Railway <br />Company for the construction of an access road from the industrial areas <br />in and adjacent to the south section of the City of Martinsville to <br />State Route 707 and U. S. Route 220 South; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded to <br />the Norfolk & Western Railway Company, to the Virginia State Highway <br />Commission, and to the Henry County Board of Supervisors. <br />
