<br />L76 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AOOUST 27. 1963 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br />City Hall, TueSday, August 27, 1963, beginning at 7:30 P.M. All members were <br /> <br />present, with the exception of Councilman filrry L. Boaz, viz., Mayor J. Frank <br />Wilson; Dr. Fred T. Renick; Thomas J. Burch; and E. E.stone. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held August 13, 196.3. <br /> <br />Mayor Wilson announced that, pursuant to authorization of the Council, he has <br /> <br />appointed a special committee to be known as the "Mayor's Committee on Public <br />Relations" whose term of office will be for one year beginning September 1, 1963. <br /> <br />and whose purpose will be to consider and to attempt to mediate satisfactorily <br /> <br />and amicably any problems affecting the City. M3mbership of this committee was <br />announced as follows: J. Clyde Hooker, Sr., Chairman; R. G. Atkins; William (W.) <br /> <br />Edwards; The Rev. H. C. Eggleston; D. Hurd Goode; Frank G. LaPrade; The Rev. Hezekiah <br /> <br />Morris; Whitney Shumate; J. Robert Walker; and Dr. Harry P. Villiams. In concurring <br />Wilson's action, Council directed that the Mayor <br />with M3.yor/and City Manager Hirst prepare for consideration a proposed operating <br /> <br />procedure by which the committee will function. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst announced that, pursuant to invitation, the following bids <br />were received this date for furnishing equipnent and labor for the construction of <br />1 ,800' of ten-inch water line from Chatham Road to the new water storage tank on <br />Grandview Road, the City to furnish materials estimated to cost almost $8,000.00: <br /> <br />Prillaman & Pace . . . . . . <br /> <br />....... <br /> <br />. . . <br /> <br />$2,660.00; and <br /> <br />Hackler-5eymour Metal Works <br /> <br />. . . . . . . . . . <br /> <br />3,995.00; <br /> <br />'Whereupon motion, Council unanimously accepted the low bid sul::mi tted by Prillaman <br /> <br />and Pace. <br />
