<br />106 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 22. 1963 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council <br />Chamber, City Hall, Tuesday, January 22, 1963, at 7:30 P.M., all marnbers <br />being present, viz., Mlyor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick, M.D.; <br />Harry L. Boaz; Thomas J. Burch; and E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br />meeting held January 8, 1963. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst discussed with Council the interest in and need of <br /> <br /> <br />alleviating heavy industrial traffic volume in certain areas of the City, <br /> <br /> <br />particularly in the Rives Road area, which traffic volume is expected to <br /> <br /> <br />increase with the completion of :American Furniture Company's "Red LweI" <br /> <br /> <br />plant outside the City on Rives Road Extended. Several suggestions were <br /> <br /> <br />offered a..'ld discussed, with Council referring this matter to the Planning <br /> <br /> <br />Commission for its study and recommendation. <br /> <br />Council indicated that it has been considering several tracts of land within <br /> <br /> <br />the City as being available and suitable for the location of a new armory <br /> <br /> <br />building, for which State and Federal funds are available during the current <br /> <br /> <br />fiscal year, and indicated further that a site should be selected and purchased <br /> <br /> <br />as soon as possible to assure construction of such a building with the aid of <br /> <br /> <br />State and Federal funds. Coundlman Stone moved, with Councilman Boaz's second, <br /> <br /> <br />that the City purchase property owned by wster Irunber Company and located on <br /> <br />!ester Iumber Company's new road between Liberty Street and Route 220 North-- <br /> <br /> <br />which road Council recently accepted as to the portion vrithin the corporate <br /> <br /> <br />limits--a..'1d that City Manager H1rst be authorized to execute necessary legal <br />
