This property was quoted for sale at <br /> <br /> <br />$3,500.00 per acre and additional undeveloped property at $1,500.00 per acre. <br /> <br /> <br />Councilman Burch moved, seconded by Vice-Mayor Renick, as a substitute motion, <br /> <br />that property owned by the Whittle interest and located on Brookdale Street <br /> <br /> <br />near Spruce Street Extended be purchased as the site for the nevr armory, the <br /> <br /> <br />sale price being quoted as $2,000.00 per acre. After same discussion, in <br /> <br /> <br />which there 'Nas pointed out the high cost involved in grading the Whittle <br /> <br /> <br />property, the substitute motion was defeated (Councilmen Stone and Boaz and <br /> <br /> <br />Mayor Wilson voting against and Councihnen &~rch and Renick voting affirmatively); <br /> <br /> <br />whereupon Councilman Burch's second motion Council unanimously selected the <br /> <br /> <br />Lester property. Further, Council urged that the State National Guard's architect <br /> <br /> <br />proceed with designing a proposed armory building for the Lester site &~d that <br /> <br /> <br />adequate land. be acquired not only for the building but also for vehicular parking <br /> <br /> <br />and equipment storage. <br /> <br />,.-- <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />Mr. Stafford G. Whittle, III, on behalf of the Whittle Subdivision interests <br /> <br /> <br />(Kenmar Farms), presented a petition to enter into a subdivision agreement with <br /> <br />the City for the development of the Petitioner's property on the northeast side <br /> <br /> <br />of Mulberry Road between the Anne H. Wyllie property and Forest Park Coun~J <br /> <br /> <br />Club property. Council referred this petition to the Planning Commission for its <br /> <br /> <br />consideration and recommendation. <br /> <br />Dr. C. J. Mathes, Director of the local State-administered Health Department unit, <br /> <br /> <br />presented to Council a report covering activities of the Health Department within <br /> <br />the City during the calendar year 1962, vrhich report Council acknol,.Tledged vrith <br /> <br /> <br />appreciation. <br />
