<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 12 ~ 1962 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthJy meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br />City Hall, TueSday, June 12, 1962, at 7:30 P.M., and with all n:embers of Council <br />present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick; Thomas J. Burch; <br />E. E. Stone; and Harry L. Boaz. <br /> <br />......-... <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br />meeting held May 22, 1962. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br />the City Manager's proposed City Budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1963. <br />No persons present inquired of any item or program included in the proposed <br />budget; however, Councilman Burch expressed himself as being opposed to <br />re-enacti~ tm additional 'two-dollar utility tax imposed coincident with the <br />adoption of the 1961-62 City Budget and Mayor Wilson expressed opposition to aIij' <br />imrease over the present real estate tax rate. Council deferred action on <br />adopti ng the budget, pe nding fur ther study. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Dr. C. D. Myers, of the Martinsville Memorial Library Association, appeared <br />before Council and requested (1) that arrangements be made to vacate the present <br />library premises at 310 East Church Street to permit construction of a new <br />library building, construction scheduled to begin August 1, 1962, and to be <br />completed within eight-to-ten months, and (2) that an accredited and experienced <br />librarian be employed by January 1, 1963. Dr. Myers also recommended that <br />temporary quarters be secured for interim operation of the library; whereupon, <br />Council authorized City Manager Hirst to secure such quarters. <br /> <br />.....-.... <br />
