<br />34 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 22. 1 c.t62 <br /> <br />The regular semi~onth1y meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with M9.yor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council <br />Chamber, Tuesday, May 22, 1962, at 7 :30 P.M., all members of Council being <br /> <br />present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wi.lson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick; Thomas J. <br /> <br />Burch; E. E. Stone; and Harry L. Boaz. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held May 8, 1962, and of its special meeting held May 17, 1962. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br />on a petition--carrying the Planning Commission's approval--requesting the <br /> <br />rezoning from .A-1 Residential" to "B-1 Ibsiness" of a lot, owned by the <br /> <br />C. Y. Thomas Estate, petitioner, located on the west side of Brookdale street <br /> <br />opposite the Doyle Ready-Mix Concrete plant. There being no objections <br /> <br />registered by anyone, and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's <br /> <br />recommendation, Council granted the petition by adopting the following <br /> <br />ordinance amending the City's Zoning Code and Map: <br /> <br />BE TI' CRDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled Mly 22, 1962, that the City's Zoning <br />Code and Zoning Map be and are hereby amended to classify as <br />"B-1 Business", for zoning purposes, that certain property owned <br />by the C. Y. Thomas Estate, consisting of one lot fronting the <br />west side of Brookdale Street and opposite property on which is <br />located the Doyle Ready-Mix Concrete plant. <br /> <br />BE TI' FURTHER ORDAINED that the building set-back line for this <br />property shall be the same as applicable to other C. Y. Thomas <br />Estate property on Brookdale Street similarly rezoned June 13, <br />1961 . <br /> <br />Mr. Leon Globman appeared before Council and asked for Cormcil's early action <br /> <br />on his recent request that steps be taken by Cormcil to discourage or prohi bi t <br /> <br />all-day vehicular parking at meters in the downtown business area. Council <br /> <br />indicated that it will give consideration to this request and, in connection <br /> <br />therewith, instructed City Manager Hirst to prepare for Council a map on <br />
