.i<) {l ' d :,} () TUESDAY JUNE 11. 1 968 The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, June 11, 1968, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., Vice-Mayor E. E. Stone; Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and Francis T. West. After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular meeting held May 28, 1968, and of its special meeting held June 6, 1968. City Manager Noland reported that a regional public hearing will be conducted by the Constitutional Study Commission in Roanoke, Virginia, Friday, June 21, 1968, at 11:00 A.M., in the Federal Courthouse, for the purpose of receiving suggestions from the public as to proposed or recommended changes in the State Constitution. Upon motion, duly seconded, and unanimously carried, Council asked that the City be represented (by a committee consisting of Mayor Renick, City Attorney Cubine, and City Manager Noland) at this hearing for the purpose of keeping Council informed on constitutional revisions offered or contemplated. Upon motion, duly seconded, and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following resolution pertaining to acquisition of rights-of-way for the Route 57 Relocation Project: WHEREAS, Section 33-57 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950), as amended by the 1966 and 1968 sessions of the Virginia General Assembly, authorized the State Highway Commissioner to acquire rights-of-way for the construction, reconstruction, alteration, maintenance and rppair of public highways within Virginia municipalities on projects which are constructed with State or Federal participation; and WdEREAS, said Section 33-57, as amended, further provides that the State Highway Commissioner may exercise such authority only upon receipt of an official request from the city or town involved; now, therefore,
