<br />.i<) {l ' <br />d :,} () <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 11. 1 968 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, June 11, <br /> <br />1968, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., Vice-Mayor E. E. Stone; <br /> <br />Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held May 28, 1968, and of its special meeting held June 6, 1968. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland reported that a regional public hearing will be conducted <br /> <br />by the Constitutional Study Commission in Roanoke, Virginia, Friday, June 21, <br /> <br />1968, at 11:00 A.M., in the Federal Courthouse, for the purpose of receiving <br /> <br />suggestions from the public as to proposed or recommended changes in the <br /> <br />State Constitution. Upon motion, duly seconded, and unanimously carried, <br /> <br />Council asked that the City be represented (by a committee consisting of <br /> <br />Mayor Renick, City Attorney Cubine, and City Manager Noland) at this hearing <br /> <br />for the purpose of keeping Council informed on constitutional revisions <br /> <br />offered or contemplated. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded, and unanimously carried, Council adopted the <br /> <br />following resolution pertaining to acquisition of rights-of-way for the <br /> <br />Route 57 Relocation Project: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 33-57 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950), as amended <br />by the 1966 and 1968 sessions of the Virginia General Assembly, <br />authorized the State Highway Commissioner to acquire rights-of-way <br />for the construction, reconstruction, alteration, maintenance and <br />rppair of public highways within Virginia municipalities on projects <br />which are constructed with State or Federal participation; and <br /> <br />WdEREAS, said Section 33-57, as amended, further provides that the <br />State Highway Commissioner may exercise such authority only upon <br />receipt of an official request from the city or town involved; now, <br />therefore, <br />
