() --1

TUESDAY

AUGUST 22, 1967

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with V~yor Fred T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday,

August 22, 1967, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M.,

all members being present, viz., Mayor Fred T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor

E. E. Stone; Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and Francis T. West.

After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its

regular meeting held August 8, 1967.

After receiving the following August 18th report of the Planning Commission,

accompanied by the Commission's sub-colllillittee report, and after receiving

cOll~ents from Mr. Oscar F. Cannaday, Jr., all involving Mr. Cannaday's

recent request that the City's Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances be amended

to permit the development of condominiums and townhouses-rowhouses, Council

re-referred this matter to the COmnlission, emphasizing the fact that the

Council takes no position, either for or against such residential developments;

furthermore, in this re-referral, the Council did not ask at this time for

proposed amendnlents to these ordinances as may be necessary to permit such

d'3velopments but, rather, for clarification and such pertinent information

as might enable the Council to determine whether to accept the COlllillission's

offer to prepare detailed revisions of applicable regulations for Council's

consideration:

(a) Your Planning Commission, upon recelvlng your reference of
Mr. Oscar Cpnnaday's request that the Zoning Ordinance and
Subdivision Ordinance be revised to allow for the development
of condominiums and townhouses or rowhouses, appointed a
sub-comnlittee composed of Mr. James H. Ford, Mr. Morton W.
Lester and Mr. William G. Pannill to investigate and report
back to the COmnlission its findings with regard to this matter.
