201

TUESDAY

AUGUST 22, 1967

This committee reported back to the Commission at its meeting
on Thursday, August 17, 1967, and a copy of its report is
attached hereto.

The Commission as a whole adopted this report and wishes to
advise that if Council should desire the Commission will
continue to investigate this matter and recommend to City
Council in details such revisions as may be necessary in our
Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances to allow these types of
jevelopment.

The Planning Commission respectfully submits the above report
for Council's further consideration.

(b) Special Sub-Committee of the Martinsville Planning Commission
reports as follows:

After considering the mechanics of those types of land development
known as rowhousing, townhouses, and condominiums, the committee
feels that they could be fitted in the progressive overall
planning for the City of ~~rtinsville. The committee is of the
opinion that their use is feasible in Martinsville and that
they can be constructed in keeping with the existing development
planning. Accordingly, the committee recommends that the Planning
Commission investigate the details of such usage both as to zoning
and subdivision requirements, and recommend to City Council in
detail such revisions in our Zoning and Sub-division Ordinances
as may be required to allow these types of develop~ent.

By letter dated August 10, 1967, accompanied by required certificate of notice,

Mr. William F. Stone, Attorney at Law and Counsel for Messrs. L. R. Wyatt, Sr.,

and J. E. Richardson, petitioners, requested the closing and abandoning of that

unopened portion of Burl Street, being 30 feet in width and 169.1 feet in length,

adjacent to the rear of the present premises of Richardson-Wyatt Buick Corporation,

West Church Street, Martinsville. Pursuant to authority granted by Council and

pursuant to Section 15.1-364 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended),

Mayor Renick appointed Messrs. Thomas J. Burch, O. B. Hensley, and J. E. Jones

as a Board of Viewers to perform the duties required of such a board by said

Section 15.1-364 in connection with said petition.
