<br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,
<br />
<br />Virginia, with Dr. Fred T. Renick, Mayor, presiding, was held in the Council
<br />
<br />Chamber, City Hall, Tuesday, March 14, 1967, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all
<br />
<br />members being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; E. E. Stone, Vice-
<br />
<br />Mayor; Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and Francis T. West.
<br />
<br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular
<br />
<br />meeting held February 28, 1967.
<br />
<br />Having received a reque st from the City School Board for the enactment by
<br />
<br />Council 0= a compulsory school attendance ordinance and having placed such
<br />
<br />an ordinance on first reading on February 28, 1967, Council unanimously
<br />
<br />adopted said ordinance, as follows, making same effectice March 15, 1967:
<br />
<br />WHEREAS the School Board of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, by
<br />resolution of January 30, 1967, has recommended that the City Council
<br />adop0 Article 4, Chapter 12 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA, 1950, and as
<br />amended, as the compulsory school attendance ordinance of the City of
<br />Martinsville; now, therefore,
<br />
<br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
<br />in regular meeting assembled this 14th day of March, 1967, as follows:
<br />
<br />(1) That Section 22-275.1 through Section 22-275.25, inclusive,
<br />of Article 4, Chapter 12 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA, 1950, and as
<br />amended, be and the same is hereby adopted in toto as the
<br />compulsory school attendance ordinance of the City of Martins-
<br />ville, and, as such, shall be entitled, IlCompulsory School
<br />k~tendanc e Ordinanc e, Martinsville, 1967"; and,
<br />
<br />(2) That all and singular the provisions relating to compulsory
<br />school attendance as set forth in said Chapter and Sections of
<br />said CODE OF VIRGINIA, together with the provisions for
<br />administration of the same, be and the same are hereby adopted
<br />as general ordinances of the City of Martinsville, Virginia;
<br />however, it shall not be necessary for the Clerk of Council to
<br />copy into the Ordinances and Council Minute Book n~ the City said
<br />Compulsory School Attendance Ordinance, but he shall maintain in
<br />his office a copy of said Code Sections 22-275.1 to 22-275.25 for
<br />public inspection; and,
<br />
<br />(3) That the provisions of said lICompulsory School Attendance
<br />Ordinance, Martinsville, 1967," shall take effect on and after
<br />March 15, 1967.
