<br />:1 ~ ') <br />i_ -1 k' <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 28, 1967 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, <br /> <br />February 28, 1967, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City <br /> <br />Hall, all members being present, viz., Dr. F. T. Renick, Mayor; E. E. Stone, <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor; Harry L. Boaz; w. Donald Hartford; and Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its <br /> <br />regular meeting held February 14, 1967. <br /> <br />Pursuant to Council's February 14th directive, City Attorney Cubine presented <br /> <br />a proposed llCompulsory School Attendance" ordinance which Council placed on <br /> <br />first reading. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland informed Council that six of the seven new busses, being <br /> <br />purchased under the Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 and to be leased to <br /> <br />City Transit Company, Inc., as per lease agreement dated February 28, 1967, <br /> <br />have arrived and immediate delivery of the seventh is expected, looking <br /> <br />toward actually placing these busses in service on March 6, 1967. Inasmuch as <br /> <br />Rapid Transit Company, Inc., has notified the Council that it is now in the <br /> <br />process of being dissolved and is to be succeeded by City Transit Company <br /> <br />and, furthermore, will not fulfill the terms of the bus franchise awarded <br /> <br />September 28, 1954 to said Rapid Transit Company (for a period of fifteen <br /> <br />years, i.e., or until September 28, 1969), and inasmuch as the aforesaid <br /> <br />lease agreement with City Transit Company will supersede the franchise, <br /> <br />Council adopted the following resolution to provide for the termination of <br /> <br />said franchise: <br />
