<br />14 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 28, 1967 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Rapid Transit Company, Inc., Martinsville, Virginia, has <br />notified Martinsville City Council of Rapit Transit Company's <br />intention to dissolve said Rapid Transit Company and its operations <br />and, in so doing, to relinquish the rights granted by said Council <br />unto said Company by llpublic passenger transportation" franchise <br />dated September 28, 1954, and expiring September 28, 1969; and <br /> <br />WrlEREAS, said Rapid Transit Company is being superseded by City <br />Transit Company, Inc., a corporation with the same principals; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under date of February 28, 1967, the City of Martinsville <br />and said City Transit Company have entered into a lease agreement <br />for the operation of a local ttpublic passenger transportationrl <br />system, with the use of seven new busses purchased by the City of <br />Mart~nsville under the Federal Government's Urban Mass Transportation <br />Act of 1964; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this 28th day of February, 1967, that <br />it doth hereby release Rapid Transit Company, Inc., from all terms <br />and conditions of said franchise dated September 28, 1954, subject <br />to the continuing guarantee that said Rapid Transit Company shall <br />save harmless the City of Martinsville from any and all claims and <br />damages until said Rapid Transit Company shall have been completely <br />dissolved and shall have discharged all of its obligations, known and <br />unknown. <br /> <br />In recogn~tion and appreciation of the assistance rendered by the Honorable <br /> <br />William M. Tuck, Member of the United States Congress from Virginia's Fifth <br /> <br />Congressional District, in connection with the City's application for Mass <br /> <br />Transportation funds toward the purchase of the seven new busses, Council <br /> <br />adopted the following resolution: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under date of April 12, 1966, Martinsville City Council <br />authorized the filing of an application with the Department of <br />Housing and Urban Development, of the United States of America, <br />for funds or a grant lli1der the Mass Transportation Act of 1964 <br />toward the purchase of seven new busses to insure a continuation <br />of public transportation for the citizens of Martinsville; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, during the course of the processing by said Federal <br />agency of said application, as well as of numerous exhibits and <br />docmnents subsequently required, the Honorable William M. Tuck, <br />Member of the United States House of Representatives, has assisted <br />the City of Martinsville in countless ways and by most able <br />representation, now culminating in the delivery of said busses to <br />the City of Martinsville; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-eighth day of February, 1967, <br />that it doth hereby publicly and gratefully acknowledge these out- <br />standing services rendered by the Honorable Mr. Tuck in the City's <br />behalf and doth tender this expression in sincere appreciation therefor. <br />
