<br />3( <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 11, 1972 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, July 11, <br /> <br />1972, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members-- <br /> <br />with the exception of Councilman W. Donald Hartford, who was unable to attend <br /> <br />because of illness--being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Francis T. <br /> <br />West, Vice Mayor; Harry L. Boaz; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held June 27, 1972. <br /> <br />As a token of recognition and appreciation for their long tenures of faithful <br /> <br />service, Mayor Renick and Council presented a check from the City in the amount <br /> <br />of $50.00 (each) to Mr. Thomas W. Wright, employee and Director of the City's <br /> <br />Electric Department since September 3, 1950, and Mr. James B. Yeatts, an <br /> <br /> <br />employee of the City's Police Department since June 23, 1951, both of whom <br /> <br />recently retired because of physical disabilities. <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved--for <br /> <br />execution by appropriate City officials--a contract with the County of Henry <br /> <br />whereby and whereunder will be established a County-City Regional Public <br /> <br />Library, retroactive to July 1, 1972. Included in this motion, as passed, <br /> <br />was the proviso that the non-City user fee of $6.00 per year, imposed by <br /> <br />Council's action of November 10, 1970 and effective January 1, 1971, be <br /> <br />abolished. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland and Public Works Director George W. Brown provided Council <br /> <br />with a status report on procedures and developments tuward installing <br />
