I (I() ~ ,.:.. TUESDAY JUNE 27, 1972 The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, June 27, 1972, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, with the exception of Councilman W. Donald Hartford (who was ill), viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Francis T. West, Vice Mayor; Harry L. Boaz; and William D. Hobson. After the invocation, and with the addition of reference--inadvertently omitted from Council's minutes of meeting held June 13, 1972--to Mr. H. L. Griggs' letter suggesting property tax relief for the elderly and/or retired property owners, now permitted under State statutes, which suggestion was referred to City Manager Noland for study, Council approved, as recorded, the minutes of said meeting held June 13, 1972. Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a Public Hearing on the Planning Commission's recommendations dated April 21, 1972 pertaining to changing and/or establishing certain street names coincident with the current Route 57 relocation. After receiving objections to the changes recommended as to Lester Street, Ellsworth Street, and a short portion of Northside Drive between Fairy Street and East Church Street, principally from Ellsworth Street residents and from Lester Lumber Company and from the Martinsvi lIe-Henry UliDDilUUDUUUIXDXHlXJOi~~U~lDfX~~~KK ~X~X~~>>XXX~XE>>K~ County Life Saving & Rescue Squad, Council directed that the following names and/or revisions be in effect: (1) The current Route 57 relocation (presently ending at Chatham Road), from and including its ultimate extension eastward to East Church Street to and including the present Armory Road be names Commonwealth Boulevard;
