.' . I
, , ; , \

TUESDAY

MAY 9, 1972

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, May 9,

1972, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members--

with the exception of Vice-Mayor Francis T. West--being present, viz., Mayor

F. T. Renick, M.D.; Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson.

After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its

regular meeting held April 25, 1972.

In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendations, Council

called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be conducted by Council at its

forthcoming June 13th meeting on a proposal to amend Section VI, paragraph

"f", of the City's Zoning Ordinance--on petition of Martinsville Coca Cola

Bottling Company--by changing the setback requirement on the east side of

Moss Street, between Church and Fayette Streets, from fifteen feet to five

feet.

By report dated May 9, 1972, the Planning Commission recommended denial of

petition submitted November 23, 1971 by Mr. H. Grady Moore, requesting the

rezoning of his property (identified as "Lot No. 2") situated on the south

side of Starling Avenue at Forest Street from "R-6 Residential" to "C-2

Commercial"; however, the Commission indicated that it might look with favor

on an application for a Special-Use Permit, if filed, to allow a parking lot

on said property for use by Stone Funeral Home. In light of some comments

which have come from petitioner and Stone Funeral Home to members of Council,

Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be conducted on said

petition at Council's forthcoming June 13th meeting.
