31

TUESDAY

FEBRUARY 22, 1972

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Vice-Mayor Francis T. West presiding (in the absence of Mayor

Fred T. Renick), was held Tuesday, February 22, 1972, in the Council Chamber,

City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., the following members being present:

Francis T. West, Vice Mayor; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing

on Mr. C. J. Buck's property rezoning petition filed November 23, 1971, which

requested the rezoning to ''M-l Industrial" of Mr. Buck's property fronting

Stultz Road, between Lester's Lane and Rahlway Street. There being no objections

registered by anyone against the requested rezoning, and noting with appreciation

Mr. Buck's cooperation in designing the location of his building to be constructed

on this property so as to anticipate the future widening of Stultz Road, and in

acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation (dated January 21, 1972)

that petition be granted, Council unanimously effected the requested rezoning

through its adoption of the following ordinance, which amends the City's Zoning

Code and Map accordingly:

,-,.-....

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
in regular meeting assembled this twenty-second day of February,
1972, that the Zoning Code and the Zoning Map of the City of
Martinsville be--and are hereby--amended to reclassify to ''M-l Industrial" that
certain tract of land owned by Mr. C. J. Buck and/or Buck Enterprises, Inc.,
which tract fronts Stultz Road between Lester's Lane and Rahlway Street.

Also, pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing

on a petition filed December 14, 1971, by Roselawn Burial Park (through its counsel,

Mr. John D. Epperly, Attorney at Law), for a zoning classification to allow construction

and operation of a funeral chapel on a tract of land lying within Roselawn Cemetery

at the end of Valleydale Drive and near the offices of petitioner. Mr. William F.

Stone, Jr., Attorney at Law, retained by and representing some eighty-three

signatories, presented the following petition:
