} . \"
) ~ -

TUESDAY

FEBRUARY 22, 1972

We, the undersigned individuals, who are either owners of burial
plots located in Roselawn Cemetery or are owners of land in the
immediate area of Valleydale Drive and Roselawn Cemetery, hereby
protest the action of the Planning Commission in approving the
petition of Roselawn Development Corporation to rezone its
property at the end of Valleydale Drive from R-9 classification
to P-2 classification. The area sought to be rezoned is
immediately between some homes and the cemetery itself and we
feel that allowing professional offices, funeral homes, meeting
halls, and barber shops would not be in keeping with the balance
of the area.

After some discussion, during which Mr. Epperly, on behalf of petitioner,

assured Council that the funeral home or chapel proposed to be built by

petitioner will be a commercial operation only as to internment of persons

in Roselawn Cemetery, Council unanimously adopted the following ordinance

amending the City1s Zoning Code and Map, thus approving said petition and

accepting the Planning Commission's recommendations thereon (dated January

21, 1972):

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
in regular meeting assembled this twenty-second day of February,
1972, that the Zoning Code and the Zoning Map of the City of
Martinsville be--and are hereby--amended to reclassify to "P-2
Professional" that certain lot or tract of land containing 41,440
square feet, lying at the end of Valleydale Drive and being
within and owned by Roselawn Burial Park.

Further, Council conducted a duly-advertised public hearing on the proposed

and recommended realignment of Stultz Road, including the proposed relocating

of a portion thereof, in lieu of proposed extension of said Stultz Road

from a point at or near the City's northwest corporate limits in a direct

line, more or less, east to Route 108 (Figsboro Road), as presently

contemplated in the City's Thoroughfare Plan (1969) adopted April 14, 1970.

There being no objections registered by anyone against said proposal, and

the Planning Commission having recommended that the Thoroughfare Plan be so

amended as to provide therefor, Council adopted the following resolution

effecting same:
