~ ")
.J i..;

TUESDAY

JANUARY 25, 1972

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

-

Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday,

January 25, 1972, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M.,

all members being present, v:iz., F. T. Renick, M.D., Mayor; Francis T. West,

Vice Mayor; Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson.

After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its

regular meeting held January 11, 1972.

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing

on the property rezoning petition filed under date of November 10, 1971, by

Messrs. David Prillaman and W. W. Wingfield, requesting the rezoning for

commercial usage of their property situated on the south side of Clearview

Drive and east of Taylor's Supermarket. There being no objections registered

by anyone to the requested rezoning, and the Planning Commission having

recommended that the request be granted, Council adopted the following ordinance

effecting the following rezoning:

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
in regular meeting assembled this twenty-fifth day of January, 1972,
that the Zoning Code and the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville
be--and are hereby--amended to reclassify to "C-l Commercial" those
certain lots identified as Nos. 6, 7, and 8 situated on the south
side of Clearview Drive and lying between property occupied by
Taylor's Supermarket and the intersection of Clearview Drive and
Barrow's Mill Road (and the east line of Barrow's Mill Road projected),
including an abandoned store building site opposite the Barrow's Mill
Road intersection.

Council unanimously affirmed its prior authorization to acquire by purchase

two tracts of land situated on Brookdale Road (from Fannie K. Grant, et al),

for the total sum of $24,000.00., as a site for a future fire station but

involved in the reconstruction of Brookdale Road and, as such, subject to

right-of-way reimbursement by the Virginia Department of Highways.
