28

TUESDAY

NOVEMBER 23, 1971

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday,

November 23, 1971, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M.,

the following members being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Francis

T. West, Vice Mayor; Harry L. Boaz; and William D. Hobson. Councilman W. Donald

Hartford was away from the City.

After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular

meeting held November 9, 1971.

In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's report and recommendations

pertaining to the J. T. Weaver property rezoning petition filed with Council

on October 12, 1971, Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing to

be conducted on said petition, as amended, at Council's forthcoming December

14th meeting, to consider rezoning from "R-9 Residential" to "C-l Commercial"

Mr. Weaver's Lot No.8 at the northwest corner of Longview and Liberty Streets.

Further considering--from its November 9th meeting--the proposed amendment to

Article III, Section 2, of the Charter of the West Piedmont Planning District

Commission, and receiving comments thereon from Vice-Mayor West and Councilman

Hobson (members of said Commission from the City of Martinsville), Council

approved said proposed amendment. It was noted that a majority of the political

subdivisions comprising the West Piedmont Planning District have already

approved said amendment.
