<br />1~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 9, 1971 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, February <br /> <br />9, 1971, in the Corporation Courtroom, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., the <br /> <br />following members being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Francis T. <br /> <br />West, Vice Mayor; and William D. Hobson. Absent were: Harry L. Boaz, who <br /> <br />was in Duke Hospital, Durham, N. C., for surgery; and W. Donald Hartford, who <br /> <br />was in F lor ida . <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held January 26, 1971. <br /> <br />Before considering the regular order of business, Mayor Renick and the Council <br /> <br />acknowledged the presence of visitors, among whom were Mr. James A. Hailey <br /> <br />and a large number of his government class students from Martinsville High <br /> <br />School. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br />on the petition dated October 6, 1970 and filed by Piedmont Masonic Lodge No. <br /> <br />"--" <br /> <br />152, requesting the rezoning of its property on the west side of Starling <br /> <br />Avenue, within the block between Spring and Wilson Streets, to permit the con- <br /> <br />struction of new quarters for the lodge. There being no objections voiced by <br /> <br />any citizen, Council unanimously accepted the Planning Commission's recommendations <br /> <br />regarding said petition and unanimously adopted the following ordinance <br /> <br />incorporating said recommendations and amending the City's Zoning Ordinance <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />effecting same: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this ninth day of February, 1971, that <br />the Zoning Ordinance and the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville <br />be--and are hereby--amended to reclassify to "P-2 Professional" all <br />properties fronting the west side of Starling Avenue, between Spring <br />and Wilson Streets; and <br />
